The 36-hour bag by Ricochet was created within the framework of the Défi Innover Ensemble (Let’s Innovate Together) initiative spearheaded by the “Compagnons du Devoir” expert craftsmen organization and backed by the J.M. Weston foundation. In 2011, this interdisciplinary collaborative research project brought together two highly motivated teams, each made up of two leather workers in training with the Compagnons du Devoir, two designers in training with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle and two fashion management students from the Institut Français de la Mode. The objective of this first collaborative project: invent a bag for people to take on business trips that integrates all the finest leatherworking know-how in an innovative way.

This team of students came up with the idea of a 36-hour bag and produced a prototype for a fictitious brand called Ricochet. The 36-hour bag meets all the needs of business travelers for a typical two-day and one-night trip. Technological innovation is one of the key aspects of this project. The team thus set out to find materials that were shock-resistant, waterproof and silicon-coated so dirt would bead up and roll off. They decided Orchestra Max fabric by Dickson® was the ideal choice. This acrylic textile used for awnings offered proven durability, effective UV protection and a specific surface treatment made with nano-particles that renders it remarkably water repellent and stain-proof.
